General Questions
A hackathon is an event where participants collaborate to build software or hardware projects within a
limited timeframe. It’s an opportunity to learn, innovate, and network with others.
All high school students are welcome to participate in this Hackathon, regardless of their financial
situation. For the National Competition specifically, participants must be from winning teams of regional
Divergent Teams hackathons (approx. 125 competitors).
Not necessarily! There are several other roles that you can take up such as project managers, and idea
generators.
No, there is no entry fee.
Registration & Team
Formation
Please visit our hackathon’s official website, fill out the participant registration form, and follow any
additional instructions within the form.
You can register with a pre-formed team or find teammates at the event. Teams can be up to 4 people.
Any student in grades 8-12 can sign up, but classes must split into groups of 4 or less.
Event Logistics
Bring a laptop, chargers, any necessary hardware, and personal items like a water bottle and comfortable
clothing. Meals will be provided.
No, this event is in-person, and cannot be participated remotely.
Yes. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be served during the event at no additional cost. Food will be boxed
(e.g. Panera) for convenience.
No, winning teams have to raise their own money for travel and lodging.
Projects & Judging
We encourage creativity and innovation. Themes include: Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, Healthcare,
Education, and more.
Judging criteria vary but often include innovation, functionality, design, and impact.
